Peep Rice Krispie Treats are the ultimate no-bake Easter dessert, combining the gooey marshmallow sweetness of classic cereal bars with a bright and festive twist.

This is a fun Easter recipe that combines gooey marshmallow, multi-colored Peeps, and a classic treat. They’re ideal for a kid-friendly dessert and make a great no-bake spring snack. Swap in purple Peeps or jelly beans for your own delicious twist on the holiday classic.
The Chemistry of Peep Rice Krispies Treats
This recipe works thanks to the binding power of melted butter and marshmallows. Browning the butter adds an extra layer of nutty richness, enhancing the sweetness of the gooey marshmallow base. Mini marshmallows folded in at the end give pockets of chew, while the white chocolate drizzle on top helps glue the marshmallow chicks in place. Using a large mixing bowl ensures an even mix without crushing the cereal. Letting the treats cool slightly before adding the chocolate helps the Peeps stay vibrant.

Recipe Troubleshooting
Peeps don’t melt smoothly? That’s why we don’t melt the Peeps, but we top the treats with them!
Are treats too hard or dry? This usually results from overeating cereal or overheating the marshmallow mixture. Keep the heat low, use fresh marshmallows, and gently fold in the cereal mixture.
Can I use different colors or flavors of marshmallow Peeps? Yes! Mixing colors adds that iconic Easter Rice Krispies look.
Should I use cooking spray? Lightly spraying a piece of parchment paper helps prevent sticking while pressing the rice cereal down to an even layer.
How can I keep it from becoming overly sweet? Try a drizzle instead of a full coating of melted chocolate, or use dark chocolate for contrast.
Color of Peeps bleeding? Allow the chocolate to set before adding it.
Difficult to cut them? Try easier cutting with a warm, sharp knife or an oiled popsicle stick.
Serving Suggestions
Present these festive treats in an Easter basket, wrapped in sandwich bags, or cut into fun shapes using Easter cookie cutters. You can also dip half the treat in melted chocolate and add pastel sprinkles or drizzle colored candy melts for a pop of color. To elevate your dessert, pair it with chocolate or vanilla ice cream and top with sprinkles. For a creative twist, place each treat on a popsicle stick like a lollipop.

Baking Tips
With mini marshmallows, white chocolate chips, and of course, marshmallow Peeps, these colorful Easter treats are as fun to make as they are to eat. Whether you’re preparing for an Easter basket, a party spread, or a spring-themed afternoon snack, this recipe delivers bright, colorful treats.
Storage Tips
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Keep layers separated with parchment paper to prevent sticking. These do not freeze well as the marshmallow mixture can become brittle.
Freezer: Freezing isn’t recommended due to texture changes, but the rice krispie mixture can be made ahead and stored unshaped for 1 day before molding and decorating.
Make-ahead: Make a double batch the day before and store on a flat surface covered with plastic wrap. Decorate with Peeps and chocolate just before serving for the best presentation.

Fun & Festive Peep Rice Krispie Bars for Spring
Ingredients
- 12 tbsp browned butter
- 16 ounces mini marshmallows
- 12 cups rice krispie cereal
- 8 ounces mini marshmallows
- 16 Peeps
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a large bowl measure out the 12 cups of cereal
- In a medium-sized saucepan, add the butter and allow it to come to a boil. Once it is boiling, keep an eye on it. As soon as the butter froths up and stops making popping sounds, it is done and browned. If you stir the butter, you should see small brown flecks.
- Add the 16 ounce mini marshmallows and stir until they are fully melted.
- Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the measured out cereal. Stir with a large wooden spoon until the cereal is covered.
- Add the additional 8 ounces of mini marshmallows and fold them into the cereal mixture.
- Pour the cereal treat out onto a large parchment paper. Press down to flatten to the thickness you desire.
- Allow the treat to cool a bit before slicing into 16 rectangles.
- In a microwave safe bowl add the 2 cups white chocolate chips and cook for 30 seconds in the microwave. Stir, repeat and stir again until smooth.
- Dip the top of each rice krispie treat in the chocolate and carefully press a peep on top.
- Allow the chocolate to set and enjoy.
